Truman Edward Boutar

Truman Edward Boutar, passed away peacefully on November 25th, 2014, at Spangcrest nursing home in Lebanon, PA of heart disease and Alzheimers. He was born in Livermore Falls, Maine, September 18, 1928, only son of Edward Boutar of Greenville, Maine and Sturcha May Boutar (Vipond) of Madison, Maine. He was husband of Shirley Violet Boutar(Giarth) of Altoona, PA and married in 1958 in Altoona, PA until she passed away in 1988, and Mary Josephine Sinders-Boutar, married in 2004, from Waveland, MS until her death in 2011. He leaves behind a daughter, Greta Jane Wagner of Lebanon, PA and her husband Douglas, and grandsons, Matthew Douglas and Alan Scott, and granddaughter Joy Marie. He graduated from the University of Maine with a bachelor degree in Business. He worked for Montgomery Wards for over 30 years ending as Controller in Falls Church, Virgina. After that, he worked for AB Dick as a Controller and GE Financial. He was proud of having over 50 years in the Freemasons, including DeMolay, the Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite, Shriners, York Rite, Royal Arch and Knights Templar. He was a member of the Kora Temple in Lewiston, Maine. He was a Philatelist, he seemed to spend every Saturday working on his collection of covers and was in many clubs, including the Universal Ship Cancellation Society, General Byrd Stamp Club, American First Day Cover Society, and the George Washington Masonic Stamp Club of Alexandria, VA all of which he enjoyed very much. He loved history and taught his daughter every landmark in Northern Virgina it seemed, and he also loved the library and taught her to as well. Both his wives loved to read and Mary was on the board of directors of the Waveland, MS library where he was also a supporter. He was a leader in every way, and after his retirement enjoyed season tickets in Annapolis, MD for the Navy Football games where he met many friends and his second wife, Mary, and best man, Bill. This was a major part of his life, he even followed the team to Ireland for the Notre Dame game and attended the Army/Navy game every year, in addition to all the home games. When he almost died of an aortic dissection in 2003, he said it wouldn’t be worth living if he couldn’t still attend the football games with his friends. In 2005 he and Mary lost their home in Waveland, MS from hurricane Katrina, but they were safely away at the time at his Virgina home. The viewing will be at Lebanon Evangelical Free Church, 600 Shepherd St., Jonestown on Saturday, November 29th, starting at 12pm and the funeral will follow at 1pm. Interment will be at Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill, PA at a later date. Flowers are welcome, or if you wish, donations to Ephrata Library in Ephrata, PA or to the Wounded Warrior Project for veterans in Truman’s name.
