Margaret K. Herr, 94, 8 Hetrick Ct., Palmyra died Thursday, November 19, 2015 in her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Ross Herr, Jr. to whom she was married 74 years. Born in Rockingham County, Virginia on April 18, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Walter, Sr. and Hattie Morris Knight. She retired with 25 years of service in the Kiss Department at The Hershey Company. She made the best bow ties and kidney beans. She was the greatest back-scratcher and arm tickler the world has ever known. She told life stories that could fill books. Her hands were like silk and always looking for another to hold. Her charm was infectious, her wit was disarming, and her love was healing. One of the fiercest and yet most gentle spirits, everyone who encountered her was better for it. She truly lived a full life. She was precious and treasured by her husband and children. Her love for the Lord was consistent and unending. On Thursday, as the rain fell softly against our windows, we took it as the joy and rejoicing being out poured from Heaven as our Savior, Jesus Christ accepted our precious Mother and Grandmother into His loving arms. We will miss her, but no longer is she suffering on this earth and the other side has gotten that much sweeter. Our greatest memory of all is our Mother in prayer. We close our eyes and it is as though it were yesterday, she and Dad praying on their knees by their bed. How many of us today can make such a claim? Diligently, earnestly and faithfully was their prayer offered up. Our Mother spoke of God’s love, so we could understand. Our Mother walked a path, so that we could follow. Surviving in addition to her husband are ten children Robert E. husband of Sally A. Herr of Annville, Shirley H. wife of John H. Jacobs of Palmyra, Barry R. husband of Sandy Herr of Palmyra, Jean H. wife of Kenneth F. Kelley of Palmyra, Linda K. wife of Kenneth P. Hetrick of Grantville, David E. husband of Sheri M. Herr of Annville, James E. Herr of Annville, Joyce wife of Roy Reitz of Palmyra, Margaret H. wife of Thomas J. Kettering of Palmyra, Judy L. wife of Eric P. Umberger of Palmyra, 38 grandchildren, 77 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren. A brother Walter Jr. and husband of Wilma Knight of Palmyra, and a sister Catherine wife of Benjamin Dowdrick of Annville. She was preceded in death by three brothers Benjamin, Elwood, and Clarence Knight and a sister Thelma Light. Viewing will be held on Monday evening from 6-9 PM at Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home, 5 Camp Meeting Road, Jonestown and also on Tuesday from 10-11 AM at the church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at God’s Missionary Church, 2127 Hill Street, Lebanon. Interment will be at the Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra. PDF Printable Version
