Joan R. Baker

Joan R. Baker, 81, formerly of Hershey died Sunday August 16, 2015 at the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown surrounded by her loving family due to complications related to Alzheimer’s Dementia. She was the wife of the late William R. Baker who died in 2001. Born in Huntingdon, PA on August 27, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Fearn S. and Dorothy M. Kyler Russler. She was retired from the PA Department of Revenue and then worked 8 years at the Dauphin County Courthouse, and 5 years part-time at Hershey’s Chocolate World. Joan was a proud graduate of Mt. Union High School in 1951 and a member of Palm Lutheran Church, Palmyra. She was a member of the O.E.S. Chapter #407, Elizabethtown for over 60 years, Ozem Temple, Harrisburg, DAR, and the Mount Union Area High School Alumni Association. Joan was former member of the Hershey Country Club, and the Quentin Riding Club and served as a Lower Paxton Township and Derry Township Republican Committee Person. The moments Joan treasured most in life were those spent with her family. She and her beloved husband Bill enjoyed traveling and were fortunate to visit many wonderful places during their 49 ½ years of marriage. Joan’s children, grandchildren, and great grandson, Miles, were the light of her life. She wanted nothing more than to be with “her kids”. Her love of animals rounded out her life with her two Siamese cats, bringing her endless joy and comfort. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Masonic Village for the years of loving care. Surviving is a daughter Jill B. wife of Michael Wagner of Palmyra, grandchildren Christopher R. Baker, Alexandra M. wife of Dorian A. Rhodes, Benjamin R. Baker, Kelly M. Wagner and companion Michael R. Mumma, and a great grandson, Miles Wagner Rhodes. She was preceded in death by her son Joseph R. Baker. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday at 3:00 PM at the Masonic Village Sell Chapel, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 with a visitation from 2-3 PM. Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family. Family asks donations be made in Joan’s name to either the Masonic Village of Elizabethtown or the Dauphin County Humane Society, 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111. Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, Annville is in charge of arrangements.
