Dr. Francis J. Viozzi

Dr. Francis J. Viozzi, 70, of 7760 Hanoverdale Drive, Harrisburg died suddenly Monday May 2, 2011 at his home in the mountains in McKean County doing what he loved to do. He was the husband of RoseAnn M. Stabinski Viozzi to whom he was married to for 26 years. Born in Lebanon on August 8, 1940, he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Emma DeAngelis Viozzi. He was a US Air Force Veteran of Vietnam serving at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Columbus, Ohio from 1970-1972. Frank was a 1958 graduate of Lebanon Catholic High School, a 1962 graduate of Holy Cross College, attended Jefferson Medical College from 1962-1966, served his Internship at Harrisburg General Hospital from 1966-1967, and performed his Residency in Rheumatology at Henry Ford University, Detroit, Michigan from 1967-1970. He began his career at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA in 1972 where he served as an Associate in Rheumatology before he was appointed Chief of Rheumatology. He also served as the Assistant Medical Director and the Interim Chief of Medicine at Geisinger. During that time, he was involved in research and published many articles on Rheumatologic Diseases before leaving there in 1988. He then served as the Medical Director of St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, MD until his retirement in 2000. At that time, he and his wife moved back to Pennsylvania and lived in Harrisburg until his untimely death. He was a member of the Cathedral Parish of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Harrisburg, a life time member of Trout Unlimited, and was a member and served as President of the Dauphin/Lebanon County Doc Fritchey Trout Unlimited Chapter for many years. Frank was an avid fly fisherman and hunter, loved classical music, and sang in several choral groups and Church choirs. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons Dr. Christopher Viozzi of Rochester, Minn., Michael Viozzi of Hershey, two daughters Laura Haldis of Fargo, ND, Wendy McCaffrey of Camp Hill, and nine grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM from St. Patrick’s Cathedral, 212 State Street, Harrisburg. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg, PA. Viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6:30-9:00 PM from the Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, 618 E. Main Street, Annville and also from 9-10 AM prior to the service at the Cathedral.
