Bryan V. Hearsey

Bryan V. Hearsey of Annville passed peacefully on October 28, 2011 while surrounded by his loving family at the Hershey Medical Center. He was born on August 2, 1942 in Bellingham, WA to the late Herbert and Laura Beth Hearsey. He is survived by his loving wife and travel partner of 45 years, Carolyn Hearsey, daughter Stacie Gingrich and her husband Craig of Lancaster, and son Todd Hearsey and his wife Becky of Annville. In addition, he is survived by his sister Faith Klingensmith of Vancouver, BC and twin brothers Dick Hearsey of Issaquah, WA and Bill Hearsey of Mukilteo, WA. One of Bryan's greatest joys was his grandchildren, Olivia and Abby Gingrich and Andrew and Emma Hearsey. He loved to watch their athletic events and other activities and to hear their stories. His family served as a source of great strength and happiness during his three year battle with cancer. One of his greatest pleasures came from family trips that included skiing, camping, and trips to the beach. He and Carolyn spent a great deal of time traveling around the United States and the world to destinations that included the Caribbean Islands, Italy, Australia, and throughout the United Kingdom. Dr. Hearsey spent 40 years as a Professor of Mathematics at Lebanon Valley College. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Western Washington University in 1964 and his PhD in Mathematics from Washington State University in 1968. After arriving at LVC in 1972, Bryan was instrumental in building a prestigious Actuarial Science program of which he was the Director. When he retired in May 2011, he was serving as the Chairman of the Department of Mathematics as well. He was an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and active in several national organizations promoting mathematics and actuarial science education. Bryan also served one year as the Acting Academic Dean during the 2009-2010 school year. Lebanon Valley College was far more than an employer for Bryan, it was an integral part of his life and family. He took great pride in the advancement of the College and most importantly the success of his students. Bryan's life will be celebrated in a memorial service to be held at the Miller Chapel at Lebanon Valley College on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Internment is at the convenience of the family. A celebration will immediately follow the service.
