Anna C. Kurteson

Anna C. Kurteson, 98, of Cornwall Manor, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2015, at the Lebanon Good Samaritan Hospital. She was the wife of the late George Kurteson, Jr., who passed away on August 12th, 2008. Born in Philadelphia on August 18, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Troxell Wentling, two pioneer families of Lebanon County. She graduated as valedictorian of Jonestown High School, spent 2 years studying dietetics at Penn State University and then graduated from Lebanon Business College. During the war, she worked for the U.S. Army and the PA National Guard. After 30 years, she retired from the psychology service of the Lebanon VA Medical Center. While there, she served as the VA employees travel representative and as President of the VA Employees Assoc. She studied at the Educational Opportunities of Lakeland, FL and served as a tour host for 10 years. She and her husband spent 29 winters in Sebring, FL. They traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Africa, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, China, Japan and Thailand. As an animal lover, she served 50 years on the board of the Humane Society of Lebanon County. She served 20 years as President. She also served as a director for the PA Federated Humane Societies for 20 years. She is currently a member of Friends of All Animals of Lebanon. She was also a member of Christ Presbyterian Church, Lebanon and the 1st Presbyterian Church of Sebring, FL. Anna was a 70 year member of the Woman’s Club of Lebanon and a 20 years member of the Sebring, FL Woman’s Club. She is a life member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, a life member of the Humane Society of Lebanon Co. and a life member of the Lebanon Historical Society. She is survived by 3 nieces, 3 nephews and a special friend, Debbie wife of Steve Leibig of Lebanon. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the Zerr Chapel at Cornwall Manor. Interment will be at the Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Jonestown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Lebanon County, 150 N.
