Dr. William E. Checket

Dr. William E. Checket of Jonestown, PA died peacefully in his home with his entire family by his side on March 2, 2015. Born in Lebanon, PA, on April 4, 1943, Bill eventually settled in Jonestown in 1969 to open his dental practice. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from Lebanon Valley College, Bill went on to graduate with honors from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. Active throughout his life as a volunteer, Bill served as President of the Board of Directors for Northern Lebanon School District, President of the Jonestown Lions Club, President of the Lebanon County Dental Society, member of the Oakview Board of Directors, was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association, and provided his services for Volunteers in Medicine. Along with his wife Mary of 48 years, he acted as an area representative for Youth for Understanding and hosted multiple exchange students from across the globe. During their time as members of St. John’s UCC in Jonestown, Bill & Mary were instrumental in the placement and well-being of two refugee Vietnamese families. Dr. Checket retired from dentistry in 2012 but never could quite give up his passion for woodworking and telling jokes. He is survived by his Mother Carlotta, sister Diane, brother Tom, wife Mary, son BJ, son Brian and wife Maria, daughter Heather, son Marc and wife Jamie, grandchildren Rachel and Abigail Schafebook, Lily Checket, and Cecilia and Philip Checket. All friends and relatives are welcome to attend the viewing at 10:00am on March 9, 2015 at Hill United Church of Christ at 3801 Hill Church Road, Lebanon, PA where Bill and Mary were active members. A service will follow at 12:00pm at the same location. For many years during his professional career Dr. Checket provided dental care for the residents of the Renova Center, a task which brought him great joy.
