John "Jack" Marino

John “Jack” Marino, 85, passed away on October 11, 2023, in the Lancaster General Hospital, with his loving wife of 63 years, Jean (McGilvray) Marino, by his side. Married in August 1960, they raised six children. Born in Needham, Massachusetts, Jack was the first son of the late John and Elsie Marino. He graduated from Needham High School in 1956, where he was a member of the football and wrestling teams, and from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering and as a “distinguished military student” with a commission as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Artillery. He earned a Master’s Degree in Engineering Science from Penn State in 1972 and a Professional Engineering License in 1990. Jack served on active duty in the gunnery department of Fort Sill, Oklahoma, before moving to Connecticut, where he worked for Pratt & Whitney until 1965 and Spencer Turbine until 1967. Then, Hauck Manufacturing brought Jack and his growing family to Pennsylvania, where he was the VP of both Engineering and Sales. In 1986, he took a position as VP at Otisca Industries in Syracuse, NY, and from there, he became President of Denton Corporation in Syracuse. In 1998, he returned to Hauck as Senior VP of Technology and Business Development until his retirement in 2007. Jack brought Hauck into Chinese markets and was President of Hauck Combustion, China, with offices in Nanjing. While at Hauck, Jack obtained six U.S. patents in combustion technology. At RPI, he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He is a past president of the Skaneateles Rotary Club in Skaneateles, NY, and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Assembly 973, Lebanon, PA, where he also served as a member of the color guard. After retirement, he taught an online course in “Fundamentals of Process Heating” sponsored by the Industrial Heating Equipment Association for several years. He is the author of the book “Ok, You’re a New Executive. Now What?” Jack is survived by his wife, Jean Marie (McGilvray) Marino; his children, John M. Marino (fiancée Marleen Hartley) of Lebanon, Kathleen M. Hoeger, MD (husband William Hoeger, MD) of Pittsford, NY, Sheila Marino Gill (late husband Bradford Gill) of Plymouth, MA, Patricia J. Greenway (husband George) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Thomas V. Marino (wife Patricia) of Quakertown, and Maureen J. Mingst (husband Lance) of Palm Harbor, FL; his grandchildren, Taylor (husband Nick Wilde), Jordan, Kendall, Christopher (wife Dahee Hong), Katharine, Lexi (husband Paul Spinney), Nick, Jacob, Lucas, Calista, Carolyn, Caitlyn, Joseph, Caroline, Benjamin, and Matthew; a brother, Robert “Jules” Marino of California; and a niece, Leah Marino. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 11AM at Holy Spirit Church, 300 W. Pine Street, Palmyra. Interment will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra. There will be a viewing held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 6PM – 8PM at Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 618 E. Main Street, Annville. A Rosary service will be held at 7:45PM at Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. There will be a viewing the morning of the mass held at the church from 10AM until 11AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of John “Jack” Marino for scholarships to students majoring in engineering at Penn State Harrisburg, 777 W.
