Henry P. Steckbeck

Henry P. Steckbeck, 79, of Lebanon died Sunday June 1, 2014 from a variety of ailments including cancer and heart failure. He was the husband of the late Jane Heverling Steckbeck who died in 2000. Born in Lebanon on May 13, 1935, he was the son of the late James and Miriam Romig Steckbeck. He retired from Lebanon Building Supply as General Manager after 41 years of service where he made many friends with the local builders and contractors, and was commonly known as “Henry the Fence Man”. Henry was a 1953 graduate of Lebanon High School, and a member of the Lebanon County Builders Association, ACE, Friendship Fire Company where he served as a firefighter for 23 years, treasurer of Lebanon Boy Scout Troop 45, and the Neversink Fire Company where he managed the Social Club and served as its president for 17 years. He enjoyed golf, deep sea fishing, playing the slots, volunteering on Mission trips to Puerto Rico, and spending time with his family. Henry was a simple, good, and strong man – a man of few words who led by example that service and dedication to his fellow man was his highest calling from our Lord. His greatest joy in life was his grandchildren. Surviving are two sons Jeffrey D. husband of Susan Steckbeck of Lebanon, David M. husband of Cinda Steckbeck of Las Vegas, NV, a daughter Tammy Jo wife of Randy Fitting of Lebanon, grandchildren Alyson Dilena, Molly Fitting, Jordan Fitting, Emily Steckbeck, Julia Steckbeck, Kathleen Steckbeck, Gabriel Steckbeck, and one great granddaughter Jocelyn Dilena. He was one of eleven children and is survived by one brother Samuel Steckbeck of Harrisburg. He was preceded in death by four brothers Edward, Charles, Michael, and James Steckbeck, and five sisters Marie Probst, Patricia Yantz, Trudy Steckbeck, Helen Steckbeck, and Kitty Maransky. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, 618 E. Main Street, Annville. Interment will be in Grand View Memorial Park. Viewing will be held on Saturday from 9-11 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
