Helen Julander 'Helene' Snyder

Helen Julander “Helene” Snyder, 68, of Lebanon died Monday March 18, 2013 in the M. S. Hershey Medical Center. Born in Atlantic City, NJ on January 1, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Helen Julander Hetrick. She was employed by the Cornwall-Lebanon School District as a Physical Education Teacher and Coach for 36 years for field hockey, basketball, and track. She also started an after-school intramural volleyball program. Helen was a volunteer for Go Red for Women and at the Hyman Caplan. Helene had received several awards and achievements including the Central Chapter PA Sports Hall of Fame, Heritage Award Winner, Lebanon County Education Honor Society, Palmyra High School Hall of Fame Career at Cornwall-Lebanon School District. Helene graduated in 1962 from Palmyra High School, attended Hershey Junior College, graduated from West Chest State Teacher’s College with a degree in Physical Education, and received her Master’s degree from West Chester University. She was a member of Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, Palmyra.Helen had many interests including golf, Bunco, Mexican Train, convertibles, traveling, opera, reading, art, calligraphy, movies, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy Surviving are a daughter Kelly Lyn Snyder of Lebanon, two step-sons Devon husband of Beck Snyder of West Chester, Brett husband of Veronica Snyder of Roanoke, VA, eight grandchildren, and four brothers Ralph husband of Janet Hetrick of Hershey, Sterling husband of Winnie Hetrick of Lakeland, FL, Frank husband of Donna Hetrick of Annville, and Ronald husband of Kathy Hetrick of Palmyra.Her family and her friends were her world. She would do anything at any time for those she loved. She loved going to see her grandchildren, great-nieces, and great-nephew in all of their activities. The children in her family always brought her so much joy. Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 11:30 AM from the Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, 131 Gravel Hill Road, Palmyra. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9-11:30 AM prior to the service at the Church.
