Arthur Leo Kelley

Arthur Leo Kelley, 98, of Harrisburg passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at his daughter’s home. Born in Delhi, Iowa, on January 3, 1919, he was the son of the late Thomas and Rose Kelley. He was a long-time thoroughbred horseman and trainer. He started out in the Midwest, eventually moved east and began racing at Penn National Racetrack until his retirement several years ago. Along with his daughters, he was a co-founder of the non-profit organization R.A.C.E. Fund, which was formed in 2004 to help thoroughbreds after their racing careers ended. He is survived by his present wife Dorothy (Weaver) Kelley; children Patricia Bewley of Phoenix, AZ, Diana Meyers of Gilbert, AZ, Marlene wife of John Murray of Harrisburg, Charlene wife of Vern Johnson of Hollywood, FL, Mark Kelley of Erie, Brenda wife of Scott Hayward of Sherman, TX, and Brent Kelley of Erie; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; step-daughters Connie Johnston and Jill Farrell both of Jonestown; 3 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Evelyn Davis Kelley, and sisters Minnie & Mary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at 10 a.m. from Soldier’s and Airmen’s Memorial Chapel, Ft. Indiantown Gap, E. Hanover Twp. Interment will be at Wenger’s Cemetery, Jonestown. A visitation will be on Tuesday from 5–8 p.m. at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 Camp Meeting Rd., Jonestown, PA 17038.
